Keanu Reeves returns as Neo in 'Matrix 4' after nearly 16 years

According to Variety, "The Matrix" is coming back after nearly 16 years since the third part was released, starring two familiar names Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The information made many fans of this franchise happy because since the Matrix 3 (original title: "The Matrix Revolutions") was released in late 2003 until now, they still yearn for the next movie. It is worth mentioning that the two familiar stars who participated in previous parts, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, will continue to play Neo and Trinity.

Keanu Reeves is a popular name at this year's North American box office thanks to the spectacular performances of "John Wick 3" and "Toy Story 4", so the return of Canadian actor as the key character of "Matrix 4" not only attracts loyal fans of the series but also receives the attention of many young audiences. Meanwhile, the return of Carrie-Anne Moss also provokes a lot of curiosity, as her character Trinity was supposed to pass away in the previous part.

Besides the two leading characters, Variety magazine also reveals that Lana Wachowski will continue to stick with the Matrix franchise as the screenwriter and director of the latest movie.

"I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends," said Wachowski. In addition, two other characters, Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell, also join in writing for the newest part of "The Matrix".

Director Lana Wachowski comes back for new Matrix movie alongside Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Reportedly, the information was confirmed by Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group on August 20. "We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana," he said. "Lana is a true visionary - a singular and original creative filmmaker - and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe."

The film is expected to be shot in mid-2020. Currently, the content of "Matrix 4" has yet to be revealed by the manufacturers.

Since "The Matrix Revolutions" was launched in late 2003, Warner Bros. has repeatedly intended to continue the series with 4th part. Information about the new film has even appeared many times in the past years. However, this series was subject to copyright issues and had been delayed for a long time. After everything was resolved, Warner Bros decided to speed up the making of the film and not let fans wait any longer.

"The Matrix" was one of the legendary series of Hollywood big screen in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The first part was released in 1999 and created a box office craze with total sales of 463.5 million USD. After the success of part 1, the next two successors – "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" landed the box office in the middle and the end of 2003. Through three impressive films created by two sisters Lana and Lily Wachowski, "The Matrix" franchise brought in more than 1.6 billion USD from the global market.

Returning to the big screen after nearly 16 years of absence, part 4 of the series is expected to have an outstanding performance at the box office.
