Taika Waititi to work with James Gunn in 'The Suicide Squad 2'
Last year, everyone who loved the movie world was shocked when director James Gunn, who was responsible for "Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3", was fired after Marvel discovered that he released sensitive jokes on Twitter in 2011. However, he soon signed a contract with DC Comics and will direct "The Suicide Squad".
This is really good news for fans of DC when there is an extremely talented person who is responsible for such an important movie project. However, things are even more crazy, when James will not be the only big-name director involved in this new film work. According to some sources, Taika Waititi, director of "Thor: Ragnarok", will appear in the film as an actor.
However, there isn't any detailed information about the character that Taika Waititi will transform into, even though it may just be a special cameo. This will be the second time the New Zealand director has acted in a DC movie. For the first time, he played Tom Kalmaku in director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern", produced in 2011.
Taika Waititi in "Green Lantern"
Taika Waititi and James Gunn are not the only names in Hollywood with the appearance of both Marvel and DC Comics. Some other people have a similar experience, such as Laurence Fishburne ("Man Of Steel" and "Ant-Man And The Wasp"), J.K. Simmons ("Justice League" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home"), or most recently Idris Elba ("The Suicide Squad 2" and "Avengers: Infinity War"). Even so, the feeling that a director, who can work at two studios as rivals, is still quite awkward.
With a series of successful film productions such as "What We Do In The Shadows", "The Hunt For The Wilderpeople" or most recently "Thor: Ragnarok", Taika Waititi is currently the most sought after name in Hollywood. In the coming years, this talented director will surely be so buried in work that he cannot see the sun.
Taika Waititi is currently in the final promotion for "Jojo Rabbit", which Fox debuted in mid-October. After that, Taika will continue to be the leader of a sports movie comedy named "Next Goal Wins". He is also preparing the script for "Thor: Love and Thunder", which will be released next year.
Part 2 of the movie "The Suicide Squad" will feature countless villains, and viewers really hope that Taika Waititi will be given one of the roles. The old cast will also return, including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag). Some new names are David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Steve Agee (King Shark), Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, and maybe Idris Elba.
"The Suicide Squad 2" will likely start shooting in late September and will be officially released on August 6, 2021.
